Airport injunction awaiting mediation hearing Vulcan Aero Services continues to serve, at least for now, as the fixed base operator at the Walker County Airport Bevill Field after a lawsuit and injunction were filed. A mediation meeting between the county and the company has been ordered to take place by Aug. 14. That meeting is set to include Jack Gray, Vulcan’s pick to be airport manager shortly before the commission decided in September to not renew its contract with Vulcan to run the airport.

Storms cause damage in county Several homes, boat docks and at least six poultry houses were damaged when severe thunderstorms rolled through Walker County Thursday afternoon. Six poultry houses on Smothers Farm Road in the Curry community of Walker County were damaged by the storm that rolled through that community around 2:30 p.m.

Safe Harbor forced to close its doors — again The Safe Harbor Medical Clinic in Sumiton, which re-opened in June 2007, has closed its doors due to financial reasons, according to Susan Swartz of the Rural Self Help Initiative (RUSH). “It greatly saddens us,” Swartz said. The clinic offered medical care to those with low incomes and no insurance for an affordable fee or directed them to programs to provide aid for patient care costs.
