Local businesses report sales ‘pretty good’ on Black Friday
Locally-owned businesses in Jasper fared well during Black Friday’s shopping rush. Rusty Richardson, owner of Bernards Store for Men, and Nick Sanders of Nick Sanders Jewelers said they saw a steady stream of traffic in their respective stores early in the day. Richardson attributed the slow down at midday to the start of the Iron Bowl. “Earlier this morning, we were more busy. Getting closer to game time, the sales kind of dropped off,” he said. Black Friday debate: Paper or Plastic?
Millions of Americans took advantage of day-after Thanksgiving sales on the traditional Black Friday from retailers offering discounts storewide. With the ever changing economy, retailers held their heads high but were still skeptical of what the first day of holiday shopping would bring. According to the National Retail Federation Web site, two-thirds of Americans say the economy will affect their holiday plans this year, with the majority of these consumers saying they’re adjusting by simply spending less.
